Fujifilm Euro Press Photo Awards 2002

The exhibition will last from February 5th until March 2nd, 2003
Opening hours: daily from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. except Mondays

The expert jury made up of Mgr Lucia Lendelová, Prof. Václav Macek and Ing. Peter Mračna is pleased to note that participation in the national round of the photographic contest Fujifilm Press Photo Awards has considerably increased against that of last year, as a consequence of which also the overall qualitative standard of the pictures presented has improved considerably. A total of 27 authors took part in four categories - Life, Sport, Events and Portrait - where the category Life was especially abundantly represented. In the domain Sports photography, pictures of physically handicapped skiers by Roman Benický made an unusual impression by their forceful impact, just as Martin Marenčin's did in the category Portrait - standing out by their unusually colourful appeal. In the category events the jury chose as the best photograph the spectacular picture by Jaroslav Žiak showing the welcome given in Bratislava last year to Slovak ice-hockey players as world champions. The absolute winner of the contest was Martin Kollár (in the category life) who concentrated the bleak atmosphere of the August floods in an absurd photograph of a dead fish on the shovel of a cleaning-up volunteer. It only remains for us to hope that next year will prove more sparing in similar catastrophes, but even richer in interesting photographs.
